Planning a first Europe trip from India? Here's what the travel blogs don't always tell you.
1. Schengen Visa Takes Time Apply at least 6–8 weeks before travel. Each application needs 3 months of bank statements, flight itineraries, hotel bookings, and insurance.
2. Train Passes Save Money and Time Eurail or Interrail passes are cheaper than individual train tickets for multi-country travel. Book seat reservations separately for high-speed trains.
3. Carry Cash for Small Towns Credit cards are widely accepted in cities, but many smaller towns and restaurants are still cash-only.
4. Book Key Attractions in Advance Vatican, Colosseum, Eiffel Tower, Sagrada Familia — these sell out weeks ahead. Buy timed tickets online.
5. Tap Water is Drinkable In Western Europe, tap water is safe to drink everywhere. Save on bottled water costs.
6. City Passes Offer Value London, Paris, and Amsterdam each have tourist passes that include museum entries and public transport.
7. European Summers are Crowded July–August is peak season — longer queues, higher prices, sold-out accommodation. May–June and September are far more pleasant.
8. Learn a Few Local Words "Bonjour", "Grazie", "Danke" go a long way. Europeans appreciate the attempt.
9. Travel Insurance is Non-Negotiable Schengen countries legally require travel insurance with minimum €30,000 medical cover.
10. Jet Lag is Real Europe is 3.5–6 hours behind India. Budget a day to adjust before any major touring.
