Indian passport holders can obtain a Thailand e-Visa online or a Visa on Arrival at major airports. The e-Visa costs approximately USD 35 and allows a 60-day stay. VOA costs THB 2,000 at the airport and is valid for 30 days. Processing time for e-Visa: 5–7 working days.
Thailand uses the Thai Baht (THB). 1 THB ≈ ₹2.3. ATMs are widespread and charge about THB 200 (₹460) per withdrawal. Credit cards are accepted at most hotels and restaurants. Budget travellers can get by on ₹2,500–₹3,500/day; mid-range is ₹5,000–₹8,000/day.
Bangkok: BTS Skytrain and MRT are excellent. Tuk-tuks and metered taxis available. Grab (like Uber) is convenient and transparent. Between cities: Domestic flights are cheap (Thai AirAsia, Nok Air). Overnight buses and trains connect major destinations. In Phuket/Pattaya: Songthaews (shared pickup trucks) and scooter rental.
Bangkok: Sukhumvit (central, nightlife), Siam (shopping, family-friendly), Silom (business district). Phuket: Patong (beaches & nightlife), Kata/Karon (quieter beach), Nai Harn (peaceful south). Chiang Mai: Nimman area (trendy), Old City (temples & history).
Thai cuisine is world-famous and diverse. Must-tries: Pad Thai, Green Curry, Tom Yum, Som Tam (papaya salad), Mango Sticky Rice. Street food is both excellent and safe. Vegetarian options are available but specify "jay" (vegan-style) or "mangsawirat". Indian food is widely available in Bangkok and Phuket for those who prefer it.
